To give an outline of our available E-strings you will find below three charts comparing all plain and wound E-strings. They provide information concerning the material and gauge used for a particular set. In some cases we use the same wire for various sets, but not always in the same gauge. This outline will help you successfully find your preferred E-string.

Plain E-gut strings are polished with absolute precision across its entirety, the string has an exactly precise diameter throughout its entire length. This gives the musician the potential for perfect intonation. The sound is distinctively warm with an extended overtone spectrum available up to the highest register. At the peg end these strings are colored green and at the tailpiece end they do not have a knot.

Our violin E-strings are provided with a bridge protector, a small plastic tube that protects the violin’s bridge from being damaged by the thin wire string. With proper installation, this bridge protector has no effect on the sound of the strings. While installing the string, place the plastic tube on top of the bridge, keeping a longer length of plastic tubing over the small amount of string that stretches between the bridge and the tailpiece. If the bridge already has a small piece of parchment installed over the E-string groove, then the plastic bridge protector is likely no longer necessary and you can remove it from the string before installation.
The vibrating string length, also called mensur, is the part of the string between bridge and upper nut.
